Who are Lapbaby Designs?

We are an Ottawa based Web & Graphic Design Company. Established in 2002 by Jennifer Malisauskas and Kris Laptos.

Our studio is made up of two great partners, both in business and life. Meet Jennifer Malisauskas, a talented visual designer, and the super skilled web programmer, Kris Laptos, whose 15+ years of trusted experience and professionalism are brought forth in each project they embark upon.

We understand that the bottom line is not just to make your product or service look great, but that it must sell your product or service. Whether it be a website design or a re-design of your existing site, corporate branding or an all-out eCommerce solution, you can trust that we will get the job done!

In addition to this we offer additional services including post-launch support and maintenance, website and email hosting, and we can manage your email marketing – we are experienced in using Constant Contact & MailChimp. Should you need help with SEO and web marketing for your website, we have an expert colleague on the team! And if we don’t offer a specialized service that you need, we have a trusted partner who does.

What’s with your name?

When Kris and I were expecting our first child way back in 2001, I had been working in Montreal at a small web design firm for about a year, this was my very first job in the field. I knew I would be going on maternity leave in a few months so I wanted to create a portfolio website to showcase the web work I had done. While I was brainstorming one day on what to use as my domain name, I looked down at my belly and thought ‘I’m having a Lap Baby”. The “lap” referring to Kris’ last name Laptos. I laughed and said “we were having a Laptos baby and the name stuck.

We are thrilled our son was the inspiration for the business all those years ago. After our son was born, I never went back to my old job or the corporate world at that. We took a leap of faith and decided to start out on our own. We became stay at home working parents. And that’s the story behind the making of Lapbaby Designs!

Jennifer Malisauskas

Co-Founder

Graphic & Web Designer

Jennifer is one of the co-founders of Lapbaby Designs. After graduating in 1998 from Montreal’s Collège Inter-Dec’s Graphic Design program she furthered her design skills while working at various web and graphic design firms in Montreal to eventually going out on her own to start up Lapbaby Designs with her husband Kris in 2001. With 20+ years in the industry she brings to the table her excellent design sense, love of layout, expertise in information architecture, specializes in WordPress, Social Media Marketing and print design fundamentals.

In her free time, Jennifer teachers yoga and mindfulness practices, in addition, she’s a Shamanic Healer (www.www.sacredshadowwork.ca).

As well she’s the creative and marketing force behind Yoga Directory Canada (www.yogadirectorycanada.com), Canada’s online yoga community which she co-founded/created with her hubby Kris in 2004.

Programmer

Kris is one of the co-founders of Lapbaby Designs. He graduated in 2002 with a computer programming degree from Herzing Collège in Montreal. He furthered his programming skills while working at Lapbaby Designs with his wife Jennifer. He has 20 years of experience in problem solving, HTML & CSS, specializing in back-end programming languages as PHP, Javascript and MySQL.
